In single-row SKF cylindrical roller bearings with cage (illustration), the rollers are guided on one of the two rings between fixed, "open" ribs. These "open" ribs and the specially designed and specially surface-treated roller end faces ensure extremely favorable contact conditions and good lubrication in the contact zone between roller and rib.
The bearing ring with the fixed ribs and the roller set can be removed from the other, free bearing ring. This makes mounting and dismounting much easier, especially when tight fits are required for both bearing rings due to the load conditions.
The single-row SKF cylindrical roller bearings have a high radial load carrying capacity and also permit high speeds. They are manufactured in many different designs, which differ in the arrangement of the ribs on the inner or outer ring. The most common designs, the standard designs, are described below.
Standard designs
Type RNU
These bearings represent an optimum problem solution for bearing arrangements where the raceways on the shaft or in the housing can be hardened and ground. As the inner ring is omitted in RNU bearings, for example, the shaft can be made stronger and therefore stiffer. The axial displacement of the shaft in relation to the housing is also only dependent on the width of the raceway on the shaft or, in the case of RN bearings, in the housing.
